Scott Pilgrim Takes Off won't be getting a second season, creator Bryan Lee O'Malley has confirmed, ending any hope that it might return to pick up the last plot hooks left dangling at the end of its finale.
O'Malley took to X/Twitter to confirm the news, writing to fans, "It's been one year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out. It was an honor to work with all of the cast & staff around the world. It was like conducting a symphony orchestra every day. From the moment [BenDavid Grabinski] sparked the idea, the project felt like a one of a kind miracle."

— Bryan Lee O'Malley (@bryanleeomalley) November 20, 2024He continued, "Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return. As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope."
O'Malley went on to apologize to fans of the characters Matthew Patel and Gideon Graves, who he says will "suffer the most."
Asked about a possible physical release, O'Malley said "we'll see" after Netflix's period of exclusively ends. As for what the apparent tease for Season 2 was ultimately all about, he said simply, "This is a happily ever after."
O'Malley has been vocal about Scott Pilgrim Takes Off only being meant for one season. In an interview shortly after its release, he said, "It’s self-contained for now. We loved what we did. We put it all in there. We don’t have any ideas lying on the floor. We pretty much put them all in. I never say never, but right now, it seems like it would take about 50 different miracles simultaneously for another season to happen. So we’ll see."
Despite his pessimism, fans continued to hold out hope that Netflix greenlight a second season, but that hope ended with today's post. Netflix's decision not to move forward with Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Season 2 appears to close the book on Scott Pilgrim, which began as an indie comic series in the 2000s before becoming a cult favorite movie directed by Edgar Wright. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was positioned as an animated remake of the original story but quickly went in some very different directions.
We wrote in our review, "The sooner you watch Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the less time you’ll spend worrying about spoilers, and the sooner you’ll get to enjoy a breathtaking reimagining of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels. Even with the core cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World along for the ride, it’s no mere exercise in nostalgia, but a fresh coat of paint on a versatile coming-of-age story, whose vibrant animation and expanded scope bring new dimensions to the garage rockers, video-store clerks, ninja-couriers, and evil exes who inhabit 'Toronto, Canada – Not Too Long Ago.'"
