Spain’s Secuoya Studios has tapped Carla Gómez as head of development and executive producer for Latin America, strengthening its creative and production operations in the region.
Bringing more than two decades of experience in the television and streaming sector, Gómez will oversee the development of original projects from initial concept through production. She also brings a catalogue of intellectual property and projects developed through her boutique development company, Cielito Studio.
Her appointment follows Secuoya’s announcement in April that it was granting its Latin American operation greater autonomy over development, production and greenlight decisions, targeting Mexico, Colombia and the U.S. Hispanic market.
The regional business is headed by Daniel Hernández Bocanegra, managing director of Secuoya Studios in Latin America, with Pierluigi Gazzolo serving as a strategic adviser through Farniente Media.
“Carla Gómez’s arrival marks an important step in the continued strengthening of both our team and our strategy in Latin America,” Hernández Bocanegra said. “We share the same commitment to working closely with local talent and stories to develop distinctive content capable of connecting with international audiences.”
Gómez has worked with content teams at ViX, HBO and Viacom, produced for NBCUniversal and, most recently, served as a development consultant for Netflix in Colombia.
Her executive credits include ViX productions “Isla Brava,” “El Gallo de Oro,” “La Mujer del Diablo” and “María Félix: La Doña,” alongside HBO Latin America’s “Sierra Madre” and Nickelodeon’s “Grachi” and its U.S. adaptation, “Every Witch Way.”
“I strongly believe in the ‘local for local’ vision: content created within the region, for our audiences and their cultures,” Gómez said.
Secuoya’s regional production drive has already yielded Netflix hit “La Celda de los Milagros,” which topped the streamer’s global non-English-language film rankings for the week of Feb. 16-22. The film recorded 21 million worldwide views in the first half of 2026, according to Netflix.
The studio’s Latin American slate also includes the upcoming “Belleza,” produced with BH5 for Miércoles Entertainment, and “La Corona,” a collaboration with Black Sheep Productions, Startling, Infinity Hill and Runaway Films.
