Sen. John Kennedy raises eyebrows with bizarre praise of Nebraska: ‘Better than sex’

Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) raised eyebrows on Sunday after claiming that he loved Nebraska more than sex during a rally addressing fellow Republicans.

The folksy Louisiana lawmaker, 74, was in the Cornhusker State on behalf of Sen. Pete Ricketts‘ campaign ahead of the November midterms, appearing at the annual Nebraska Steak Fry at the Cass County Fairgrounds.

Kennedy, a second-term senator, began by comparing and contrasting his home state of Louisiana with Nebraska, particularly their relationship to food and local wildlife.

“Now, there are differences between Louisiana and Nebraska. We eat things that you would call an exterminator for to get out of your backyard,” Sen. Kennedy quipped.

“When you pass a ditch here in Nebraska, you look at it and go, ‘Oh, there’s a ditch.’ In Louisiana, we see dinner,” he added. “So I want you to come visit my state. We have the best food in the world, so long as you don’t ask too many questions.”

Sen. Kennedy then began praising his hosts in his own inimitable style.

“I’m here for one reason aside from the fact that I love Nebraska. I shouldn’t say this, but I love Nebraska better than sex,” he said, to laughter.

“Not really, OK, but I love Nebraska. But that’s not why I’m here. I’m here for Pete Ricketts. I’m not here to be against something, even though I’ll talk about it in a minute. I’m here for something. I’m here for Pete Ricketts,” he said.

But Sen. Kennedy put aside the jokes to warn the crowd of some 800 — dining on steak, potatoes, cornbread, and peach cobbler — of the high stakes of the upcoming elections.

“All of the good work we’re doing in DC is at risk because the DC Democrats have lost their minds,” he said, as reported by the Omaha World-Herald.

Sen. Kennedy warned of the “truly radical ideology” of the Democratic Socialists, and said that Sen. Ricketts’ opponent, registered nonpartisan candidate Dan Osborn, would function as a far-left Democrat.

He also said he believes President Trump will get the US out of Iran in the next six months, and Americans will see lower gas prices and reduced inflation as a result.

At an event celebrating Nebraska’s agricultural heritage, Sen. Kennedy was full of praise for the state’s farmers.

“Without farmers, you’d be hungry. You’d be naked. You’d be sober,” he said.
