Sharia in the Kremlin: Polygamy and the Rise of Islamic Law in Putin’s Russia

Vladimir Putin’s embrace of Islam reflects a broader ‘Red-Green Axis’—a dangerous alliance between authoritarian regimes and Islamic movements.

Russia’s descent into deeper Islamization under Vladimir Putin’s leadership signals a dangerous convergence of authoritarianism and religious extremism, forming a “Red-Green Axis” that imperils the nation’s cultural integrity and security. This troubling alliance between Putin’s regime and Islamic authorities, exemplified by a decree from Russia’s highest Islamic council allowing religious polygamy, should alarm anyone concerned with the preservation of secular governance and national stability.

Polygamy by Stealth: Eroding Russian Law Despite Russia’s legal prohibition of polygamy, Grand Mufti Ildar Alyautdinov’s recent decree permits men to marry multiple wives under religious pretexts, such as infertility or “sexual incompatibility.” While this ruling holds no legal authority, its potential societal impact in Muslim-majority regions like Chechnya and Dagestan cannot be ignored. The issue is further compounded by canonical Islamic texts like Reliance of the Traveller, which instruct Muslims to adhere to Sharia law even when living outside Islamic nations.

By tolerating such decrees, Putin tacitly endorses a parallel legal system that undermines Russian secular law in favor of Sharia principles.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Lets not forget, Putin inaugurated Europe's largest Mosque - right in the center of Moscow. Russia has also allied itself with the planet's most extreme Islamic nation of them all : IRAN. 12 - 15% of Russia's population is Muslim, that's a higher percentage than any of the EU countries.

Don’t think that’s going to end well. Hasn’t for other non-Islamic countries.

Things are fine, take a pill, and relax. No one is asking you to move to Russia, nor are they asking you to send Putin 300 BILLION DOLLARS with no audit trail to fight a war, just to see him lose, anyway.

So much for Putin’s portrayal as the great defender of Christianity by the kooks who pollute this forum. He’s as bad as Hitler, who likewise embraced the lunatic Islamists of their time. Didn’t work out for him, either.

If Putin is a brutal dictator and his enemies say he is then Islamists or anyone else that gets in his way will be crushed right?
