Shutdown showdown yields to bipartisan compromise — of sorts 

House Speaker Mike Johnson pulled a six-month stop-gap government funding bill due to lack of votes, but later brought it back with a compromise CR that expires on Dec. 20, and includes an extra $230 million for the Secret Service to protect top federal candidates.
