A Disney-themed dance party took a twisted turn when giant photographs of accused UnitedHealthcare gunman Luigi Mangione were beamed on a screen — as the Hannah Montana song, “He Could Be The One,” blared.
The event, held on Friday in Boston, garnered backlash as images showed attendees partying beneath a slideshow of photos of Mangione, who was charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
Video of the bizarre tribute shows revelers cheering as the pics flashed behind the DJ. The teeny-bop hit “He Could Be The One,” sung by Hannah Montana, the beloved Disney Channel character portrayed by Miley Cyrus, blasts in the background.
The DJ then tells the rapturous crowd: “We got to give the people what they want,” the video shows.
Online commentators slammed the Disney-billed event as “sick” and “wildly inappropriate.”
Vanessa White, who took the footage, told Storyful the “Disney night” was being put on by a DJ group called Bop to the Top, referencing the song from the popular Disney Channel movie, “High School Musical.”
The group’s website describes the events as a “DJ-led dance night spinning your favorite throwbacks with high energy performances, crowd participation & main character moments dancing on stage.”
The group does not appear to be affiliated with Disney.
On Tuesday, Mangione was indicted on upgraded charges of murder as an act of terrorism in the killing of Thompson, 50.
A grand jury charged Mangione, 26, with first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder for the cold-blooded slaying of the health insurance executive outside the Hilton in Midtown on Dec. 4.
