A small boat migrant committed a sex crime against two girls just days after he was given the keys to a taxpayer-funded house.

Mohammed Abbas, 29, who claims to be Palestinian, entered the country on a dinghy from France in March.

In June, he was put behind bars for a number of charges, including sexual assault on a female, common assault, assaulting a constable on duty and assault by beating.

Then, at a sentencing hearing in July at Coventry Magistrate's Court, he was sentenced for 300 hours of community service and fined £100, as the sexual assault and common assault charges were dismissed.

After his release, he was placed into a taxpayer-funded two-bedroom house in Cardiff, worth a quarter of a million pounds. At the time, he was the sole occupant.

But just two days after he settled in, he trespassed into a separate property. A pair of sisters, one under the age of 16, and the other under 13, woke up to Abbas exposing himself in their bedroom doorway.

At Cardiff Crown Court last month, he admitted two charges of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, and pleaded guilty to trespass with the intent of committing a sexual offence and burglary after stealing a phone and AirPods from the family’s house.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp told The Sun: "Andy Burnham is not taking the migrant rape and sexual assault crisis seriously.

"Every week a new story emerges of an illegal channel migrant or asylum seeker attacking women or girls. These sickening attacks are a danger to every woman and girl where illegal immigrants are accommodated."

He added: "The list goes on and on, yet Burnham tells us there's no problem."

Mr Philp said the Conservatives would leave the European Convention on Human Right (ECHR) and deport all small boat migrants immediately.

The family of the two girls remain unsure how he entered their home.

"We didn't know him and don’t know why he picked our house," their mother said. "It was just random."

Neighbours also told the newspaper they were scared of Abbas when he was first handed the keys to his taxpayer-funded home, claiming that all the residents in a four-property estate are asylum seekers.

Fahmida Abro, 40, who lives opposite, said she was afraid of him because he would drink outside in the street

She said: "My three daughters play in the street, but I brought them in if he was there.

"I'm even more worried now I know he's a sex offender. Why was he put here?"

The Home Office said it would seek to deport Abbas at the earliest possible opportunity, with a spokesman adding: "Our thoughts are with the victims of Abbas' vile crimes.

"We are boosting the number of officers on the ground in France and removing the pull factors drawing people here through illegal and dangerous routes.

"Removals of foreign national offenders are up 41 per cent, with nearly 12,000 returned or deported since the Government came to power to the end of this March."
