A small handful of democratic states are finding themselves at odds with President-elect Donald Trump's policies as he prepares to take office. The sticking points include the handling of illegal immigration, abortion, energy policies, and climate change. New York is presently the most vocal about considering seceding and becoming a province of Canada, according to WND. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker are democrats who have formed a new alliance in which they intend to resist Trump policies with which they are in disagreement, according to Reuters.
The name of the alliance is Governors Safeguarding Democracy. A few other democrats who are supportive of the alliance include Washington State's Attorney General Bob Ferguson, California Governor Gavin Newsom, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell.
Though the website for the organization claims that it's non-partisan, when Pritzker was asked who the Republican governors are that are a part of the alliance, he wouldn't give any specifics.
The website also indicates that the organization will "foster cross-state collaboration, including the sharing of essential tools, knowledge, and resources" and that it will "collaborate with think tanks, legal experts, and democracy advocates" in its efforts.
How Americans Feel about Trump's Policies
As for how the majority of Americans are feeling about his policies right about now, 59 percent are confident that the economy will improve, 54 percent feel confident in his ability to make a positive impact on law enforcement and criminal justice, 53 percent are in favor of his immigration policies, and 53 percent are in favor of his handling of foreign policy, according to Pew Research.
In regard to implementing tariffs on imported goods, 52 percent of Americans overall believe Trump should impose them, according to CBS News.
"His track record proved to be, on balance, positive, and people look back now and think: 'Oh, OK. Let's try that again,'" Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a former White House economic adviser, director of the Congressional Budget Office, and now president of the conservative American Action Forum think tank, told PBS.
Wall Street's Response to Trump's Election Victory
Trump is also getting a positive nod from Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has shot up over 1,700 points since he won the election. Businesses are optimistic that tax cuts and eased regulations will have a positive impact on economic growth and their bottom line.
God's Grace and Mercy for America
Many Conservative Americans, whether they consider themselves Christian or not, see Trump's win as God's mercy and grace for a country that was on the wrong track for a long time.
The day after Trump narrowly escaped a gruesome assassination, Christian broadcaster and bestselling author Eric Metaxas said, "I have said repeatedly for months that those who hate Trump would stop at nothing to make sure he doesn't get back into the White House, including trying to assassinate him. I have also said God's hand is on him and would protect him if God forbid someone did try to do that. Last night, we saw that happen. His survival was nothing less than a miracle. So be assured that God is not finished with this nation.
"But we need to pray," Metaxas urged, according to WND. "We are in an existential crisis, and without God, this experiment in self-government will not continue. But it is God's will that it continues. So please pray."
It's important to note that while intercessory prayer was vital prior to the election, it's even more crucial now because the opposition to Biblical values and principles is far from over.
