Disney was already on a downward spiral and now “Snow White” has dragged them down further.

The modern-day remake of the 1937 animated classic opened to dismal box office sales, missed all financial forecasts and has failed to withstand widespread criticism. Ticket sales were reported at roughly $87 million globally in its opening weekend. That leaves a significant financial gap, considering Disney sunk something between $250 and $270 million into the production. The movie is bombing at the box office and has fallen behind “Dumbo” and “Cinderella” on Disney’s long list of live-films in recent years, raking in $43 million in U.S. theaters, according to Forbes. This is far from the fairytale ending that was predicted for this classic tale.

The film’s very public failure has proven once again that if movies go woke, they’re sure to go broke.

The casting of Latin actress Rachel Zegler as the titular character had many up in arms before the movie was released. Zegler continued to anger fans by actively promoting her pro-Palestine political beliefs, and tension rose when her co-star, Gal Gadot, took a pro-Israeli stance. The movie was on shaky ground with rumors suggesting a conflict between its two stars, creating a very unstable foundation.

Disney fumbled by dropping “and the Seven Dwarfs” from the title, opting instead to animate the dwarfs.

It seemed they just couldn’t get it right in the early stages, yet they continued to invest in the movie and seem to have sunk more into it then they will ever get back.

The movie is close to being the worst-performing live-action Disney adaptation of all-time and has been given just a 41% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Author Jeffrey A. Tucker shared a tweet March 27 indicating audiences haven’t warmed up to the film in the days after its release.

“Not one seat sold for any of today’s showings of Snow White at my local theater,” he wrote.

“This won’t make it to the weekend. It will be on streaming at discount prices soon enough,” he shared on social media. (RELATED: ‘Snow White’ Star Rachel Zegler Gets Brutal Tongue-Lashing From Her Producer’s Own Son)

Internet users widely reported empty theaters, and many shared screenshots of the numerous unpurchased seats on X.

The sad reality is that the film hasn’t been able to stand on its own even thought it doesn’t even have any direct competition in theaters.

Disney classics once held a nostalgic place in the hearts of fans across the globe. Based on recent ratings and box office disappointments, perhaps its time for a fresh new film rather than a recycled remake.
