Fans called Macy Gray a “sore loser” for storming off “The Masked Singer UK” after being eliminated Saturday.
The “I Try” singer walked off the stage when judges Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan and Maya Jama chose to save the “Bear” character instead of her “Toad in the Hole.”
As Gray made her way backstage, the panel looked stunned with their mouths wide open.
“‘Toad in the Hole’ is gone already,” host Joel Dommett awkwardly said while shrugging as the studio audience laughed. “What is going on?”
After a few moments, Dommett informed viewers that Gray’s character would “return to the stage” and welcomed her back while the crowd clapped.
The Grammy winner, 57, sauntered back to center stage, prompting the audience to chant, “Take it off!” before she removed her costume’s head and revealed her identity.
The crowd roared with applause, and the judges praised Gray’s decades-long music career.
Dommett then took a few moments to interview the celebrity contestant, who still appeared to be upset over her elimination and gave mostly one-word answers while barely cracking a smile.
“Did you have fun on the show?” the host asked Gray, who simply replied, “Yeah.”
When Ross chimed in and asked whether it was “hard” to perform in the toad head, Gray unenthusiastically said, “You know, I’ve been singing for a long time, and now I’m a toad.”
Nonetheless, Dommett called the R&B star an “absolute pleasure” and thanked her for her time before she left the stage for good.
Dommett later poked fun at the ordeal by posting a clip of it to his Instagram with the brief caption, “Lol.”
The video quickly went viral, and several people took to social media to criticize Gray, who previously competed in both the US and Australian versions of singing competition show, for her reaction to being sent home.
“Macy Gray absolutely livid while hanging out of a Yorkshire pudding costume is hands down the highlight of 2025 so far! #maskedsingeruk,” one person wrote via X.
“Macy Gray was clearly pissed off, such a sore loser, she didn’t come across well at all,” another user shared on the platform.
“I thought it was a joke when she walked off but her face was livid,” a third viewer wrote on X.
“First Macy Gray walking off and then refusing to say more than a couple of words,” someone else observed on social media.
“That was soooo awkward to watch and to be honest quite rude of her!” an Instagram user commented on Dommett’s post.
“She was very rude and she made it incredibly awkward. Well done to Joel and the judges for being professional in a very awkward situation created by her!” another follower wrote.
“Pop culture moment of 2025, Macy Gray storming off stage in a toad outfit after being sent home then coming back and being SALTY AF to the judges who are standing there being BRITISH AF acting like everything’s fine,” an X user summed up the moment.
Reps for Gray didn’t return Page Six’s request for comment, nor has the star directly address the backlash.
