The South China Morning Post has picked up 12 prizes, including in the Best Scoop category, at the Hong Kong News Awards 2024.
The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong announced the results on Friday, with the Post’s reporters securing awards in 11 categories.
Senior reporter Edith Lin and news editor Jeffie Lam from the City desk picked up top prize in the Best Scoop category for their work exposing unauthorised structures added to luxury properties. Lin and Lam also secured second place, together with journalists Kahon Chan, Natalie Wong and Lilian Cheng, for their reporting on the controversy surrounding a Dubai prince who shelved plans to open a family office in Hong Kong.
Post editor-in-chief Tammy Tam congratulated the winners for their “outstanding” work.
“Our award-winning journalists are the best in the business in Hong Kong and the pride of this city,” she said.
“It’s gratifying to see their achievements recognised, and we remain fully committed to excellence in journalism. Our professionalism prevails despite rapidly changing technology and other challenges our industry faces.”
Reporter Sammy Heung’s series of five stories on the movers and shakers in the city’s scientific field secured third place in the category of Best Science News Reporting. Third prize in the category of Best News Writing (English) went to reporter Harvey Kong, while production editor Matt Haldane and reporter Xinmei Shen were also awarded third place for Best Business News Writing (English).
