The Hong Kong outpost of a South Korean immersive multimedia art space will close after a two-year run and relocate to mainland China’s Shenzhen, joining a wave of business closures amid tough economic conditions.
Arte M Hong Kong, which is part of Arte Museum, announced it would shut on December 31 and visitors could enjoy a 50 per cent discount on standard price tickets until its final day.
“The legacy of Arte Museum continues to thrive in Shenzhen, China. Get ready to be inspired by fresh creativity, unique perspectives, and boundless inspiration in this vibrant new setting,” the exhibition space said in a social media post earlier this week.
The gallery, located in Quarry Bay, originally planned to move into 11 Skies, a New World Development shopping centre inside the mammoth Airport City infrastructure project.
In his recent policy address, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said the airport project would double in size, with aims to create an ecosystem for the arts industry, set up a food market and provide more public spaces.
Korean digital design company d’strict is behind Arte Museum, which specialises in immersive digital art that offers visual, audio and olfactory experiences. Its Quarry Bay space opened in October 2022, with the company also operating four branches in South Korea and individual outposts in Las Vegas, Dubai and Chengdu.
