Spare us the tears, Selena Gomez. You’re crying for bad hombres

It was the performance of a lifetime. Selena Gomez in a stripped-down production: The Tears of a Clown.

In a video posted to instagram earlier this week, the actress pointed the camera at her face and let the waterworks flow as she struggled to eke out words.

Women-crying-on-camera has become its own pathetic genre of social media — a transparent and performative plea for attention or sympathy. But this one, aimed at President Trump’s immigration raids, was a doozy.

“I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can’t,” said Gomez, whose paternal grandparents are originally from Mexico. “I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.

“My people are getting attacked.”

But just who is Gomez crying for? Who are her “people”?

Was she weeping for the members of Tren de Aragua or MS-13? Maybe it was for Edgar De La Cruz-Manzo, a convicted child rapist and Mexican national, who was arrested by ICE in Seattle? Or Ethiopian national Yared Geremew Mekonnen, a convicted sex offender nabbed by ICE in New Orleans?

The purpose of these initial raids is to apprehend criminal illegal immigrants who have been protected by sanctuary laws. It’s also to jumpstart a very surgical cleanup of President Biden’s colossal border mess.

As new border czar Tom Homan told Megyn Kelly, this is about prioritizing “public safety and national security threats,” adding, “There are over 600,000 illegal aliens walking the street with a criminal conviction.”

That should elicit cheers, not tears.

Personally, I think Gomez is cute as a button and a delight to watch on screen. But she would benefit from some time outside of her coddled Hollywood bubble, where luxury beliefs reign.

An overwhelming number of Americans —  affected by the nonstop influx of illegal migrants, many of whom were given government resources — voted for a return to law and order, and to prioritize our citizens.

Many apparently let the “Only Murders In the Building” star hear about it.

Gomez quickly deleted the video and sniffed, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”

But where were the temper tantrums during the Obama administration, when our 44th president laid down the law?

“If you’re a criminal, you’ll be deported. If you plan to enter the US illegally, your chances of getting caught and sent back just went up,” Obama said in 2014 during an address on immigration. “The actions I’m taking are not only lawful, they are the kinds of actions taken by every single Republican president and every single Democratic president for the past half century.”

Before Trump Derangement syndrome gripped our cultural institutions, that was a unifying, bipartisan sentiment. Now, enforcing the law is considered racist or evil.

Because Trump does not speak softly while carrying a big stick. He carries a big stick and speaks through a megaphone.

Progressive politicians like Illinois governor JB Pritzker are openly bragging they won’t comply with the federal government, weaving some fantasy that they’re protecting the American dream for the tired, poor huddled masses.

In reality, they’re allowing criminals to walk free and make a mockery of our laws.

Where were Gomez’s tears for Laken Riley or Jocelyn Nungaray, who were both murdered by migrants? Or the many citizens killed by illegal immigrants getting behind the wheel drunk?

Democrat’s inaction has led to a cascade of criminal behavior threatening both Americans and those desperate to get to our country.

“We’ve got to tell the truth about the tragedy on that border, about the women being raped by members of the cartel, about children being sexually assaulted. A child dies almost every f–king day on that border,” Homan told The Post back in November.

Thankfully, Homan — who also worked under Obama —  is transparent about his mission, and undeterred. As he told Kelly, he isn’t trying to win popularity contests; he is trying to do a job.

“Every president I worked for took steps to secure the border because they understand you can’t have strong national security if you don’t have border security,” he said.

Except that is, Biden: “He unsecured the border, on purpose.”

Now it’s Homan time — and he’s not afraid to put his feelings on display.

“People always ask, ‘Why do you get so emotional when you’re on Fox News, why do you get so emotional when you’re testifying to Congress and start yelling?’ It’s because I’ve seen more tragedies in 34 years than I can stomach,” he said.

Unlike Gomez, he’s in the weeds, doing the work. And he means it.
