A Split Fiction movie has reportedly been given the greenlight, but the game’s director Josef Fares told us he simply ‘doesn’t care’ for film adaptations of his work.

We called Split Fiction one of 2025’s best games and one of the most creative feats the medium has ever seen. It appears the film industry agreed as Variety has reportedly heard a film adaptation is already going ahead.

Story Kitchen, an entertainment company responsible for producing the likes of the Sonic movies, has reportedly started gathering talent for the project. Variety claimed they’re seeking writers, a director, and of course, a cast, to then shop the film around in a “bidding war” with “top Hollywood studios.”

It’s worth bearing in mind, this isn’t the first Hazelight Studios game to be given a similar treatment. Back in 2022, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s production company unveiled plans to bring It Takes Two to the big screen. Through it all, however, Hazelight founder Josef Fares simply ‘doesn’t care.’

There’s been no movement on the It Takes Two film adaptation since its announcement.

Josef Fares ‘doesn’t care’ for film adaptations of his games

Speaking to Josef Fares exclusively ahead of Split Fiction’s release, we asked him about the status of the It Takes Two movie, now three years removed from its announcement.

“To be honest… Hollywood, there’s so much talk,” Fares said. “They talk so much, I’m telling you.”

The ever-charismatic studio head then told us he’d actually be sent a completed script for the film adaptation of his 2021 Game of the Year winner. Though, he hadn’t yet bothered to even so much as read the thing.

“They’ve sent us a script. I haven’t even read the script, to be honest with you. We’ll see if it happens. If it happens, I’ll be like ‘Oh, that’s fun.’ But I don’t really care.”

Clearly, Fares is focused solely on the success of his games. Any adaptations are welcome, but not a huge concern for him or the team. So just how things pan out with this reported Split Fiction adaptation, it’s largely not of concern.

Much like the It Takes Two film, it’s all talk until something actually happens. Whether Split Fiction actually makes its way to the big screen anytime soon is anyone’s guess for now.
