Asked about Abu Mohammad al-Julani’s recent interview and his comments on Iran, Baqaei told reporters at a press conference on Monday that Iran’s stances on Syria are clear.
“We respect the Syrian people’s choice. The protection of Syria’s territorial integrity is important to us and the whole region,” he added.
The spokesman said Iran has expressed its concerns about Syria in talks with various countries.
“Syria must decide its own fate without interference from international parties. Syria should not turn into a haven for the growth of terrorism,” he underlined.
Echoing Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi’s recent comments about Syria, the spokesman stated that Syria’s stability would benefit the entire region.
In a post on his X account on December 27, Araqchi rebuked the Arab League for accusing Tehran of attempts to foment strife in Syria, reaffirming that the Islamic Republic seeks a peaceful transition of power and the formation of an inclusive government in Syria.
