Stardew Valley VR mod turns the cozy farming sim into a fully 3D experience

A modder built a working VR conversion of Stardew Valley that lets players physically swing a scythe, cast a rod, and walk through Pelican Town in first person.

Stardew Valley’s mod scene never really slows down. Last week alone, fans found a way to farm alongside a viral mutant raccoon. This week, a modder aimed higher and rebuilt the entire game for a headset.

Meet Stardew 3DVR, the mod that got Pelican Town into VR

The mod comes from GingasVR, whose past projects on Nexus have leaned into oddball immersion tech, including a mod that hooks up a smart plug to simulate real wind and temperature while playing Palworld, Skyrim, and Fallout.

Stardew 3DVR landed on Nexus Mods this week after months of solo development and it delivers exactly what the name promises. Thanks to it, players can walk through the valley in first person and swing an axe, cast a line, or water crops using real hand movement.

A menu floats on the wrist, and hotkeys let anyone flip between flat 2D, walkable 3D, and full VR without ever touching a save file.

The trick is a voxel conversion that builds 3D geometry out of Stardew’s existing 2D sprites in real time. It isn’t swapping out assets, it’s adding a new dimension to the ones already there, which is also why the mod barely conflicts with anything else installed.

A rival project called The Third Dimension, built by modder KittyCatCasey, took the opposite route and rebuilt assets from scratch. It trades some of that compatibility for sharper visuals.

Asked whether Stardew 3DVR would work alongside overhaul mods that add entirely new casts of characters, GingasVR confirmed it would, since the voxel conversion builds around whatever assets are already sitting in the game world. Yes, you can use your Astarion sprite and play in VR.

That flexibility has one limit, which is that a mod that removes Stardew’s fishing minigame entirely still works fine, but one that changes the minigame breaks the VR menu, since that piece of the interface was custom built around the vanilla version.

Stardew’s fields just joined a growing list of games getting the VR treatment. A Resident Evil mod let players physically dodge zombies in real life only a few months ago, and if Stardew 3DVR catches on the same way, expect plenty of farmers to discover just how much cardio a harvest actually takes.
