Donald Trump's former strategist Steve Bannon says former Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley should be returned to uniform on the first day of the new administration so he can be court martialed.
Bannon, who was recently released from federal prison, laid out his priorities for the next Trump White House and said he had been in close contact with his former boss, advising him on appointments.
The populist provocateur spoke to former Trump Press Secretary Sean Spicer in an interview that will be released at 6pm on Friday.
And his recent stint in prison has clearly done nothing to dim his revolutionary zeal.
'Number one thing is, I think Mark Milley has got to be recalled ... the first action of President Trump,' said Bannon.
'I think it is so important to reassert civilian control over the Pentagon, the uniformed services.
'I think Mark Milley has to be recalled to active duty on the afternoon of the 20th and I think a military tribunal ... a court martial, has to be ... impaneled. Mark Milley has to be brought up on charges and court martialed.'
Milley has emerged as a vocal critic of Trump, reportedly describing him as 'fascist to the core.' And the former president has made no secret of his contempt for a man who was once the nation's top soldier.
Bannon was a top adviser to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and followed him into the White House before leaving after a falling out.
However, today he is an informal adviser and a key player in the rightwing media environment that helped deliver election victory.
He returned to the airwaves barely two weeks ago after serving a four-month sentence in federal prison for contempt of Congress.
And he made no secret of his excitement about the way Trump had gone about picking loyalists and firebreathers for his administration, such as Matt Gaetz for attorney general.
He urged Trump to shake up the White House briefing room and to immediately gut the FBI.
'I think the FBI ought to be taken apart, shut down as a federal agency,' he said.
'Go to Congress and undo it and rebuild a federal law enforcement, force, if you need it.'
He added that he had recommended that Trump clean out all the U.S. attorneys by asking for their resignations.
'But the FBI, I think, ought to be taken apart,' he said.
As he ever, he sounded as if he relished the looming Senate battle to confirm Trump's top team, such as Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence, Gaetz, and Peter Hegseth at the Pentagon.
'For folks that watch this show, I think you should be prepared for a firestorm over the next ... even before Inauguration Day,
you're going to have a firestorm on, basically what's going to be the approval of these guys ,
'The TV rights will be worth a lot of money.'
