Stocks Little Changed at the Open. Next Week Is a Busy One for Markets.
Stocks were off to a modest start Friday as inflation and earnings now hold the spotlight following a turbulent first week accompanying Trump 2.0.
The Dow opened down 78 points, or 0.2%. The S&P 500 was flat; it closed at a record level on Thursday, a first for 2025. Nasdaq opened higher by 0.1%.
This week, investors had much to digest as President Donald Trump signed an avalanche of executive orders from immigration to climate change, committed billions to artificial intelligence, called for the Fed to lower interest rates, and implored the petroleum exporting countries to boost oil production, thereby lowering oil prices.
