Nuzzi has insisted there was no physical contact and that she did not write about Kennedy after growing close to him.
Hines is an actress who starred in Curb Your Enthusiasm and who married Kennedy in 2014.
His second wife Mary Richardson killed herself two years after divorcing Kennedy on discovering his 43 rumored mistresses.
Kennedy was also married to Emily Ruth Black between 1982 and 1994. Last week, DailyMail.com columnist Maureen Callahan eviscerated Kennedy for destroying the lives of the women he's wooed.
Nuzzi and Lizza began dating in 2018 and he popped the question in 2022. However, Lizza has since called off their engagement.
The relationship between Nuzzi and RFK Jr. began when the two went hiking as part of an interview profile in November 2023.
The then-presidential candidate is said to have tried to grasp Nuzzi's hand in a gesture which reportedly upset Nuzzi at first.
However, friends said RFK Jr. eventually won her over and the two began a digital affair.
Addressing the scandal, Nuzzi admitted to being in contact with RFK Jr.
'Earlier this year, the nature of some communication between myself and a former reporting subject turned personal,' Nuzzi said.
'During that time, I did not directly report on the subject nor use them as a source,' she said.
'The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I've disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York.'
RFK Jr.'s team also played down the relationship and painted Nuzzi as the pursuer.
'Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece,' his spokesman said.
A source added that the nature of the relationship was 'emotional and digital in nature, not physical'.
