A group of Australian schoolgirls have been slammed for a distasteful video in the wake of One Direction star Liam Payne’s death.
Payne died aged just 31 after he fell from a third-story balcony of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires on Thursday.
Just hours after news of his death broke, the young girls – who reportedly attend a Sydney school – shared a video on TikTok appearing to joke about the singer’s final moments, Perth Now reports.
The clip left many viewers angry, with some suggesting it proves our current youngest generation “lack respect”, labelling the stunt “disgusting”.
In the footage, one girl can be heard yelling, “Liam Payne died”, before another interjects with, “That’s a funny joke”.
The girl is then seen running and pretending to jump off the edge of a balcony.
The video then cuts to another girl lying on the ground level of the building.
The shocking footage was shared in a popular Facebook group where many were quick to criticise the girls, according to Perth Now.
“That’s absolutely disgusting behavior, and I reported them a few times. Hopefully, it will be removed,” one wrote.
“Some people have absolutely no respect for human life, and it shows,” wrote another.
“Yikes! That’s f****d,” said a third.
Local media outlet La Nacion reported that officers were called to the Casa Sur hotel after a manager reported an “aggressive man” who may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
TMZ also reported that witnesses saw Payne acting erratically around the hotel in the hours before the tragic incident, claiming to have seen him smash a laptop before being moved to his hotel room.
The One Direction singer, 31, died instantly from multiple injuries sustained in his fall that led to “internal and external hemorrhaging,” preliminary autopsy results have shown.
Two forensic pathologists reached the conclusions during a post-mortem on Thursday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The autopsy report showed Payne may have been unconscious when he fell to his death.
The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 16 reported on Thursday, “it is presumed that Payne did not adopt a reflex posture to protect himself” and “he could have fallen while in a state of semi or total unconsciousness”.
It also said all indications show Payne was alone when he fell and the singer had been “going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse” at the time, according to an official statement from the office translated from Spanish.
Further tests are now taking place to see if the singer had consumed drugs and alcohol which could have played a contributing factor in the star’s tragic death. A toxicology report is still pending.
Harrowing images allegedly showing alcohol and drugs in Payne’s trashed hotel room in Argentina have also since emerged.
The pictures, which have been verified by local media outlet, La Nacion, reportedly show a half-empty wine glass, foil, powder, a Dove soap packet, and the remains of a burned candle and the burned top of a drink can scattered around the room.
A smashed-up television also features in one of the images, while wax and burned foil can be seen in the bathtub.
The local outlet reports that authorities are now testing the powder to confirm suspicions that it could be cocaine.
The eerie 911 phone call between a concerned hotel worker who flagged he was “afraid” for Payne’s life and an emergency responder has also been released.
Payne leaves behind a seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend, British singer Cheryl Cole.
