Tammy Fine, a veteran NBC News producer who spent a significant part of her career overseeing key newsmaker interviews in the first hour of “Today,” is getting a new passel of responsibilities.
Fine has been named vice president of talent development at NBC News, and will lead efforts to develop careers and find up and coming journalists who might join the overall team. Liza Eaton, who has led that function, will move to a part-time role later this summer, and will report to FIne going forward.
The announcement was made Tuesday in a memo from Rebecca Blumenstein, president of NBC News Editorial; Cheryl Rosenbloom, executive vice president of global human resources of NBCUniversal News Group; and Libby Leist, the executive vice president of “Today” and lifestyle programming.
Fine will begin her new duties on September 1.
The executive started with NBC News as an intern on “NBC Nightly News” in 1993. She worked with then-anchor Tom Brokaw and subsequently joined “Today,” rising to a senior producer role. During her tenure, Fine has supervised interviews with every living U.S. president. Her duties at NBC News had her covering the funerals of both Princess Diana and Mother Teresa, and traveling to Cuba, India, Israel, Hong Kong and Vietnam. She has also worked at MSNBC and served as an adjunct professor at Columbia University, where she taught a graduate course on strategic communication in the digital age.
Kristen Powers, who joined as a talent-development executive earlier this year, will report to both Fine and to Catherine Kim, executive vice president of editorial for NBC News.
