Temperatures dropped to as low as 12 degrees Celsius (53.6 Fahrenheit) “over many places” in Hong Kong on Thursday morning, with the forecaster expecting they would plunge even further in the evening and the next day.
The mercury stood at 7.6 degrees in Ngong Ping on Lantau Island, 8.3 degrees at Tate’s Cairn and 9.1 degrees in Tai Mo Shan, the city’s tallest hill, while temperatures in Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tai Po and Sheung Shui were below 12 degrees.
“The northeast monsoon will persist over Guangdong today and tomorrow. Temperatures will fall progressively over the region,” the Hong Kong Observatory said.
“Temperatures over many places dropped to 12 degrees or lower. It is expected that the temperatures will drop further [on Thursday] night and [Friday] morning.”
The forecaster said a broad band of clouds would also bring a few rain patches, with the rainy weather continuing until Friday.
