Streamer xQc‘s offer to buy the Terraria Calamity Mod and hire its developers to keep the project alive has already been rejected, according to moderators in the community’s Discord channel.
The hugely popular mod announced it was shutting down on August 10, bringing development to an end after years of expanding the base game with additional content.

Reacting to news of the shutdown, xQc floated the possibility of stepping in himself and purchasing the project.
“What if I bought it? And I hired the devs to keep it alive,” he said, adding, “I asked my agent; he is going to contact them,” while also questioning whether Calamity being open source would affect any such deal.

When a user in the official Calamity Mod Discord asked whether it was true that xQc was trying to buy the rights, wiki contributor Flarithe responded: “he has already been rejected.”

However, while reasons for the rejection remain unknown, the same contributor followed up, saying, “To elaborate, I have both a dev and a mod telling me ‘Yeah we were contacted and repeatedly bothered, despite saying no a million times.'”

A moderator separately gave the same answer after another user claimed xQc was buying Calamity. “XQC was rejected,” they said. “He’s not buying calamity.”

None of the responses details what exactly xQc had offered or, indeed, if negotiations had even reached that stage.
A public statement on the Calamity Discord on August 10 confirming the cessation of all development specifically reveal reasons behind the closure, although it made reference to the “troubled past” of Calamity’s development, as well as calling its reputation “irrecoverably tainted.”
The statement came days after the mod’s lead developer, Ozzatron, was accused of endangering minors.
