The shocking moment a car flew off a main Florida highway and nearly hit a bystander has been caught on camera.

Instagram footage posted on Saturday by 'onlyindade' showed a dark green car sitting on the edge after driving off the southbound Interstate 95 and falling onto the fence.

People quickly ran over to help the driver and passenger get out of his car while the crash's aftermath caused chaos and traffic on the roadway in downtown Miami.

Meanwhile, as the car slid out of control off the highway, it just missed a man as it slammed into the area below.

Witnesses told 7NEWS the crash happened at around 3.30pm on Saturday.

A dark green SUV came crashing down off the side of the Interstate 95 and landed on a fence below

Witness Julio Martinez told CBS: 'If the car [didn't] stop over there on the fence, I cannot talk to you now.

'When I [saw] the car coming, the car stopped over there on the fence.'

Martinez sets up a tent on the side of the Interstate 95 everyday. He has never seen something like this.

Martinez was one of the people who rushed to help the driver after the accident.

He described the instance to CBS: 'He was scared but when we took him out, I said "oye, you feel good? You feel good?" He said, "Yeah, I feel good."'

The video shows the driver being pulled out of the car window.

No serious injuries have been reported. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, according to CBS.

Mariah Lewis, who witnessed the accident, told 7NEWS: 'It’s just by the grace of God that the people lived, because I don’t understand how you fall from that high and [live].'

The roads were closed off while paramedics tended to the people in the crashed car. They reopened around 6pm.

As a precaution, the man videoed being helped out of the SUV was taken to a trauma center, 7NEWS reported.

The Interstate 95 is the most dangerous highway in America, based on data collected by the National High Traffic Administration.

The commenters underneath the Instagram video shared their thoughts on the situation. Many people said they were relieved that no one was seriously hurt from the accident despite how bad it looked.

Others did not seem surprised by the crash at all.
