This is the terrifying moment a shark swam up on two unsuspecting snorkellers, just off a Florida beach.

A frightening video of the sea just off the American city of Stuart shows the shark just metres away from the unwitting swimmers - despite them being in shallow waters.

In the drone footage, taken by local photographer Michael Busch last week, a man and a woman can be seen exploring a reef on a quiet side of the beach.

But they appear to have no idea a shark is so close by - though it can clearly be seen lurking very near them for several minutes in the alarming clip.

At one point, it swims directly behind the man as he snorkels - but he continues to go about the activity, blissfully unaware.

The two even appear to stop and have a conversation, all while the shark hovers beside them.

Mr Busch was shocked by what he saw as he filmed - but felt helpless.

He told NeedToKnow: 'I don't think they ever noticed it... I wished that I had a speaker on my drone to warn them.'

The professional photographer and drone pilot, who also works as a financial advisor, said: 'I noticed a shark on the beach side of the reef and two snorkellers in very shallow water totally unaware of the shark.

'It approached them several times, getting within five feet.'

He added: 'Since they were on the calmer side of the reef, they probably didn't even consider one on that side.'

After capturing the scary clip at the Florida beach last week, on March 24, Mr Busch shared it on Instagram.

Part of his caption read: 'The one time it got really close, a breaking wave pushed the shark back. This was less than waist-deep water.'

The aerial clip has since racked up thousands of views, with commenters shocked by what a close call these two snorkellers had.

One commented: 'Waist deep is probably the most dangerous spot because the churning water makes legs look like prey. Lucky snorkellers.'

Another said: 'Wow. They don't even see the shark.'

But while others were just as haunted by the near miss, they also appreciated the skill behind Mr Busch's aerial clip.

One person said: 'Yikes. I'm never going in the water anywhere again. Great footage Mike.'

Another added: 'Cool capture. Hope you shared the video with a local area account! Shock some snorkellers.'

Some took a more light-hearted view, with one saying: 'Shark was also snorkelling.'
