Resort guests in Cancun were subjected to terrifying scenes as police clashed with a violent 'criminal group' who were harassing staff and trying to sell drugs.
One of the suspects was shot dead by police around the pool of the Riu Hotel in Costa Mujeres.
Tourists in the pool area and at the nearby beach reportedly ran for cover as the gunfight broke out.
Undercover officers were at the resort in a bid to catch members of a criminal organization who were using it as a base to sell drugs.
Staff were allegedly threatened by the group and ordered to provide services as the criminals attempted to distribute drugs in the resort, Sol Quintana Roo reported.
