Two standout players for the third-seeded Texas Longhorns are testifying to the power of God ahead of their semifinal matchup with Ohio State. Quarterback Quinn Ewers and defensive back Jahdae Barron each discussed their faith during a news conference Jan. 1, saying many players on the team have a shared commitment to Bible study, praying together, and lifting one another up. Ewers and Barron made the comments after the Longhorns' 39-31 win over Arizona State in the Peach Bowl.

"It's just been super cool to see the amount of guys that have really let God come into their heart, and me being part of that, and Jahdae being part of that," Ewers told media members. "It's kind of like a domino effect in the locker room."

Barron agreed. He is this season's Thorpe Award winner for best defensive back in college football.

"Last year and the years before, I wanted things done on my time," Barron said, referencing comments he made to his teammates during a Bible study. "But it doesn't work like that. You know, God has everything planned. It's already written, and all you have to do is just keep going with the process and just trust in the process and then allow everybody to be a plus in your life and trust in everybody. So just literally relying on God."

Barron, a senior, cited Scripture.

"And then Psalm 105:1 -- just give thanks to the Lord and proclaim His greatness and show the whole world what He has done," Barron said.

Ewers, a junior, said faith has helped the team bond.

"I think more guys are starting to come to Bible study, come to chapel, and just to see that, and I think that's what grows us closer as well -- just the amount of guys that are putting their faith in the Lord has just been really cool to see," Ewers said. "We pray after every practice as a team. And prayer is very powerful. I really believe in prayer, and it's just been cool to see how Jesus, God, has just worked in our lives throughout this year. And I think that is also a testament to how we stay level-headed and poised throughout the entirety of a game."

Texas is scheduled to play Ohio State on Friday at 7:30 Eastern in the Cotton Bowl on ESPN.
