Well, President Joe Biden gave his farewell address on the night of Wednesday, January 15, and as could be expected it was a ridiculous mess, with the president spending most of it insisting that there’s a right-leaning “oligarchy” forming in the country, a ridiculous assertion given who has long been in support of the government. He also ended it with one of his classic gaffes as he kept reading off the teleprompter for too long.

Speaking about the “oligarchy” during the speech, President Biden said, “a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very few ultra wealthy people.” He added, “Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power, and influence, that literally threatens our entire democracy. Our basic rights and freedoms. And a fair shot for everyone to get ahead.”

Continuing, the elderly president rambled for a bit about the “climate crisis,” saying, “Powerful forces want to wield their unchecked influence to eliminate the steps we’ve taken to tackle the climate crisis, to serve their own interest for power and profit. We must not be bullied to sacrifice in the future, the future of our children and our grandchildren.”

Then, when arguing that social media’s destruction of the traditional press, most of it owned by the “oligarchs” he was speaking about, Pr Biden insisted that there is “misinformation and disinformation” that is destroying the very fabric of government in America. He said, “Americans are being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation enabling the abuse of power,”

Continuing and getting to the bit about the “free press,” by which he meant the Democrat-friendly MSM outlets, the president then said, “The free press is crumbling; editors are disappearing. Social media is giving up on fact-checking. The truth is smothered by lies told for power and for profit.”

Getting more positive later on, he said, “America can be defined by one word: ‘possibilities.’ Only in America, do we believe anything is possible, like a kid with a stutter from modest beginnings in Scranton, Pa.; Claymont, Del., sitting behind this desk in the Oval Office as president of the United States. That’s the magic of America.”

Then, insisting that the point of America and idea behind it is a country where “our institutions” endure, the elderly President added, “I give you my word: I still believe in the idea for which this nation stands, a nation where the strengths of our institutions and the character of our people matter and must endure.”

And, appearing to hand off power to “the Squad,” or the collection of very progressive, young Democrats such as AOC and Ilhan Omar, he said it is time for the next group of leaders to “stand guard” for America, saying, “Now it’s your turn to stand guard. May you all be the keeper of the flame. May you keep the faith. I love America. You love it, too.”

But, of course, he couldn’t end on a semi-high note. He had to include in his farewell address with the same sort of thing for which he will be remembered, if he is remembered at all: a gaffe. Speaking at one point during the address, he kept reading off the teleprompter for too long and said, as he was meant to move on from the quote, “end of quote.” As one commenter online put it, “That gaffe sums up his embarrassing presidency.” Watch him here:
