Huge Genesis fan- as you know. This album had its moments for me but overall i felt Gabriel’s work with Genesis was to constipated at times.
With Thanksgiving around the corner there is a bootleg from 40 or so years ago on Thanksgiving night of Genesis live at the Felt Forum in NYC available on youtube- as just about all bootlegs are...

I felt Gabriel’s work with Genesis was his worst. It just wasn’t a fit.

I never saw Genesis but I did see Peter Gabriel as a solo artist.

Peter Gabriel leaving Genesis lead to commercial success for both Gabriel and Genesis.

I loved "Carpet Crawlers", "Riding the Scree" and "It" and still do, but I can't remember most of "Lamb" - some of what I do remember, like the Lamia song, makes me cringe. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved this album when I was a kid and still do, but the album had a lot of stuff in it.
"Selling England" is still my favorite Genesis album - shorter and much tighter.

I do think Gabriel left at the right time, he could never top The Lamb.
And both A Trick Of Tail and Gabriel’s first solo album were both excellent, so it was a win-win all around.
