The Onion buys Alex Jones’s Infowars at auction

The satirical news publication The Onion said Thursday it purchased conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’s Infowars website at a bankruptcy auction.
“All told, the decision to acquire InfoWars was an easy one for the Global Tetrahedron executive board,” a satirical CEO Bryce P. Tetraeder said in a joking statement about the acquisition.
Jones’s Infowars business went to auction after the trustee in charge of his bankruptcy proceedings moved to shut down the site and liquidate his assets.
Jones is a far-right conspiracy theorist who spread baseless lies about the victims and families of those killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The auction was intended to help pay for the $1.5 billion judgment awarded to the families.
In The Onion’s statement, Tetraeder said Infowars distinguished itself as an “invaluable tool for brainwashing and controlling the masses.”

How much do they think they can milk that? They will repurpose it and its libraries to quote people and ridicule them for the things they said, and also could be expected to say.
That only goes “so far.”
They could throw it into AI to create a caricature and have fake show using Alex Jones, possibly.
Odd, but interesting situation.

There’s an astonishing amount of money in digital platforms. I could not find out much about whether the owners will maintain the ethos of InfoWars or push it towards marxism, other than the four principals appear to be Americans, and one is possibly of Slovenian ancestry.

Years ago I frequently looked at The Onion until they demanded FR stop posting their articles. Haven’t been back since.
