Can art and commerce co-exist in today's cinematic landscape? Is it possible to make prestige films that double as blockbusters? These are some of the questions haunting newly appointed Continental Studios head Matt Remick (Seth Rogen) in AppleTV+'s upcoming Hollywood satire The Studio.
In the trailer above, Matt laments his new responsibilities. "I love movies," he tells producer Patty Leigh (Catherine O'Hara). "But now I have this fear that my job is to ruin them."
"The job is a meat grinder," she replies.
The Studio's trailer fully embraces the chaos of the Hollywood meat grinder, promising chaotic shoots, raucous awards shows, and heaps of celebrity cameos. Martin Scorsese and Ice Cube take meetings with Matt. Past Lives' Greta Lee and Women Talking director Sarah Polley lose it when Matt interferes with a key shot. Olivia Wilde and Zoë Kravitz have screaming meltdowns. That's only just scratching the surface of The Studio's many cameos, but don't for a second think the show is only a star-studded celebrity fest. It's also an incisive look at the increasingly embattled Hollywood of today.
In addition to Rogen and O'Hara, The Studio also stars Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Bryan Cranston, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Dewayne Perkins.
The Studio premieres March 7 at SXSW. It hits AppleTV+ March 26.
