FRANKLIN, TN — Fandom of a revered intellectual property became outraged this week, as legions of loyal fans bemoaned what they saw as a desecration of their favorite stories after they watched the new trailer for the reboot of Baywatch.

While some people may be excited about the newer, modernized take on the classic tale of a squad of attractive Southern California lifeguards, the series' biggest fans labeled the updated version as a desecration of the original mythos that is held by many as sacred.

"This is a complete and total betrayal of the beloved source material," said one outraged Baywatch fan in a social media post. "They think they can just make any kind of eye candy-filled drivel and slap the Baywatch name on it, but that's not how this works. You can't bring the masterpiece that was Baywatch back to the screen without holding a deep appreciation for the message of the original. This is hallowed ground you're haphazardly traipsing across here. Show some respect."

Other die-hard Baywatch fans agreed. "They clearly don't know what the show is really about," another fan said. "It's not just people running around the beach in red bathing suits. There's so much more to it than that. This trailer is clearly just a cash grab for a show that's trying to capitalize on the legendary status attained by the original show. It's embarrassing. David Hasselhoff would be ashamed."

At publishing time, fans of the traditional Baywatch had begun organizing an official boycott of the reboot and demanded that it be scrapped in favor of a version more faithful to the sophisticated themes and storytelling of the original.
