In a flurry of social media posts, Elon Musk, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), clashed with failed Vice Presidential Candidate Tim Walz over DOGE’s actions to reform the Social Security Administration (SSA). Musk slammed Walz as ” a huge jerk,” to which Walz replied with a poorly thought-out retort.
For context, DOGE has worked hard to root out inefficiencies and alleged fraudulent activities within the massive program. Musk has prioritized cleaning up the SSA with widespread changes designed to end endemic fraud and waste.
However, Democrats have cynically decided to use DOGE as a scare tactic to improve their dismal prospects in upcoming elections. Many progressives have objected to DOGE gaining access to social security data, which is vital to continuing its work.
Beginning the drama, Musk spoke to Fox News’s Brett Baier on March 30, 2025, criticizing the woke Minnesota Governor for his past actions. The genius tech CEO said, “I mean, you had Tom Waltz, who’s a huge jerk, you know, running around on stage with a Tesla stock price, having where the stock price had gone in half.”
Building on that point, Musk blasted the mean-spirited Democrat, who celebrated a recent downturn in Tesla stock. Musk added, “And he was overjoyed. What an evil thing to do, what a creep, what a joke like. Who derives joy from that?”
Responding to Elon’s remarks, the failed VP candidate tried to dunk on the Tesla founder. Reiterating a tired progressive talking point, Walz said, “Elon, I’ll make you a deal. I’ll stop making fun of your stock when you take your hands off social security.”

However, Walz’s response was poorly received, and social media users took to the comments to mock the woke governor. Mark Hemmingway, who writes for Real Clear Politics, said, “What do people earnestly think Musk is doing to Social Security? This is bizarre. There’s zero evidence here that Musk is angling to cut benefits. I suspect the program will be on the verge of collapse — which could happen sooner than you think — before anyone proposes cuts.”
In the comments of his post, users chimed in to defend Musk. One such commenter said, “It is not reasonable to consider Tim Walz’s comments to be good faith arguments. Remember, his entire family described him as a chronic liar. He is not a man of integrity.” Another of the replies said, “It really is the whole Democrat playbook. “Bad air, bad water, throw Grandma off a cliff, take your Medicare and Social Security…” It’s all they have, FEAR mongering…”
Other users criticized the Democratic Party for resorting to scare tactics. One of the comments said, “The Dems learned a lot time ago that Social Security is a great weapon to use to stir up low-info people. It has nothing to due with logic or math only fear. Scared people are the easiest to manipulate and control.”
