Essex Police have confiscated thousands of vehicles from uninsured drivers between January and July this year, a figure that has already surpassed the total number seized in 2023.
The force's latest enforcement data revealed that the seven-month tally comfortably exceeds the 3,580 vehicles removed from roads during the entirety of 2023.
The sharp rise follows an intensified crackdown on motorists operating without valid insurance across the county, forming part of broader efforts to eliminate dangerous drivers and unsafe vehicles from Essex's road network.
With five months of the year remaining, the pace of seizures has now suggested the 2026 total could reach significantly higher levels than any recent annual figure recorded by the force.
Officers seized an average of 546 vehicles each month during the January to July period, reflecting a sustained and consistent enforcement effort throughout the first half of the year.
The monthly figures varied, with May proving the busiest month at 632 seizures, while July recorded the lowest total at 487.
That range demonstrated that the force maintained a high operational tempo even during quieter periods, never dipping below nearly 500 confiscations in any single month.
The scale of the operation pointed to a significant deployment of resources by the roads policing team, with officers conducting regular checks across the county to identify those driving without proper cover.

Adam Pipe, who leads Essex Police's Roads Policing Unit, said the statistics reflected the force's unwavering determination to tackle the problem.
He said: "Uninsured driving puts lives at risk. Drivers without insurance are far more likely to be involved in collisions and are often committing other offences at the same time.
"Vehicles without insurance are also frequently poorly maintained, creating additional risks for people travelling lawfully on Essex's roads."
Mr Pipe described the seizures as part of routine road safety enforcement designed to catch uninsured motorists and intervene before serious harm occurs.

The enforcement activity forms part of Op Drive Insured, a nationwide campaign aimed at tackling uninsured driving and the broader dangers it poses to all road users.
Under existing powers, officers who discover a motorist driving without insurance or a valid licence can immediately confiscate the vehicle at the roadside.
Once seized, the car or van is transported to a secure compound where it remains until the registered keeper can demonstrate their entitlement to drive it.
To reclaim a confiscated vehicle, owners must present their driving licence, vehicle registration document, and proof of insurance, and pay the applicable release fees.

The process has been designed to ensure that no vehicle is returned to the road until the driver can prove full legal compliance.
Essex Police has also pledged to maintain its close collaboration with partner agencies and continue backing national initiatives such as Op Drive Insured in the months ahead.
The force said its priority remains disrupting unsafe driving, removing dangerous vehicles from the road and safeguarding communities throughout the county.
Regular roadside operations will persist across Essex as officers work to identify and intercept those who flout insurance requirements.
