The internet blasted Tom Selleck after his comments about President Donald Trump in an Aug. 4 interview with CNN.

The famous actor spoke with CNN’s Elex Michaelson about his close relationship with Ronald Reagan, but when asked for his opinion of Donald Trump, Selleck offered a lukewarm, noncommittal response.

“How do you feel about him and what he’s doing?” Michaelson asked the legendary actor.

“Well, he’s certainly a mixed bag,” Selleck replied.

Michaelson: How do you feel about Trump and what he's doing?

Tom Selleck: Well, he's certainly a mixed bag. I stay out of the current political world. Why piss off half the country when you're in the business of entertaining people? pic.twitter.com/rO1nrgQc1V

Selleck continued, “I stay out of the current political world,” then offered an explanation for distancing himself.

“Why piss off half the country when you’re in the business of entertaining people?” he said.

Selleck, famous for his roles in “Blue Bloods,” “Magnum P.I.” and “Friends,” didn’t offer more insight on his political stance.

Social media erupted with criticism, with many taking aim at the star’s evasive response.

“Holy fuck, you’re a fucking piece of shit (not to mention a shitty actor),” one person wrote on X. (RELATED: Boosie Badazz Files Lawsuit Alleging He Paid $600,000 For A Trump Pardon That Never Happened: REPORT)

“When they “stay out of politics” they’re maga🤡,” another person said.

Other comments included, “so not only is he MAGA, he’s a coward. got it,” and “What a pussy. If you’re gonna be right wing at least do it with some dignity.”

Another social media user lashed out by writing, “Hey Tom don’t worry about offending half the country by speaking honestly about the most serious threat to American Democracy, it’s been such a long while since you’ve been “entertaining” anyone. Clearly a risk worth taking.”

Selleck hasn’t addressed the widespread backlash.
