Tony Romo Placed On Leave From CBS Sports Following Arrest On Suspicion Of Operating Vehicle Under The Influence

After being arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence, Dallas Cowboys icon Tony Romo has been placed on leave from his NFL lead analyst duties at CBS Sports.

CBS Sports announced Friday that Romo will be on leave “until further notice.” While Romo is absent, J.J. Watt will be joining Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson as the lead NFL team for CBS Sports. (RELATED: Tony Romo Turning Field Sobriety Test Into NFL Draft Scouting Film Is Crazy Work)

The 46-year-old Romo was placed under arrest July 23 following a traffic stop in Wisconsin while he was driving southward on Interstate 43. Per the report from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Romo didn’t perform well on field sobriety tests prior to being taken into custody. He was ultimately booked and released.

Romo’s court date is scheduled for Sept. 21.

The announcement from CBS Sports follows citations being released by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office that indicates open alcohol was discovered on the passenger side of the former quarterback’s Jeep while an inventory was underway prior to the vehicle being towed.

Per the citations, Romo was stopped after police said they spotted him going around cars in an area meant to separate interstate and on-ramp traffic, called a gore area. Police stated that Romo didn’t know what it was during the traffic stop.

Recently released body camera footage shows Romo speaking with police after being stopped, telling them that he had just left a golf course and was headed “to visit grandma and grandpa.” An officer told the ex-Dallas Cowboy that he suspected him of being impaired due to having an “odor of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage” and “red glassy eyes.”
