Former Chair of the Erie County Steve Pigeon has been sentenced to jail for a number of offenses. First in 2022, he was convicted of violating federal election laws. Less than a year later he was convicted of sexual abuse of a minor. On the first set of charges, he was sentenced to 4 months in jail and on the second less than a year.

Pigeon knowingly acted on behalf of a foreign company to make political donations. He solicited the CEO of a Canadian company to make a $25,000 donation in order to secure access to a political fundraiser. When the donation was rejected, Pigeon used another individual to facilitate the payment.  Due to the second case, Pigeon has been forced to register as a sex offender as a result of his second case.

The Department of Justice issued a press release to summarize the details of the election fraud. According to this release, “U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that G. Steven Pigeon, 61, of Buffalo, NY, who was convicted of conspiracy to cause a foreign donation in a state election in violation of federal law, was sentenced to serve four months in prison and one year supervised release by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.”

The document explains how Pigeon broke the law. It reads, “Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul E. Bonanno and Deputy Chief John Keller of the Department of Justice Public Integrity Section, who handled the case, stated that while working as a political consultant and lobbyist in Buffalo, Pigeon represented a foreign client, whose CEO was a Canadian citizen. In early 2014, despite knowing that it was illegal to make a foreign donation to a state political campaign.”

Given the details of the case, it is obvious he was committed to his crime. The press release states, “Pigeon solicited the CEO to make a $25,000 donation to the reelection campaign of a New York state elected official. However, the campaign rejected the donation because the CEO was not a citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States. Pigeon and the CEO then caused the donation from the CEO to be made through another individual, a permanent legal resident of the United States and an employee working for the CEO.”

The document concluded by explaining how he was able to side step election protections. It says, “In February 2014, a $25,000 donation was made to the elected official’s campaign, with Pigeon and the CEO knowing that the CEO would reimburse, the donation. As a result of the $25,000 donation, Pigeon and the CEO were granted entry into a fundraising event for the public official in New York City on February 26, 2014.”

This is not the disgraced democrat’s only run in with the law. According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, “63-year-old Gerald Steven Pigeon, also known as Steve Pigeon, of Niagara Falls was sentenced this morning before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to 364 days in jail. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.”

The brief document summarized the facts of the case. It said, “On a date between November 2016 and December 2016, the defendant subjected a child, who was less than 11-years-old, to [abuse]  at a location in Erie County. The victim was known to the defendant. On November 6, 2023, Pigeon pleaded guilty to one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class “D” violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge ahead of a jury trial that was scheduled to begin the following month.”
