Tourist dies after falling 170 feet from waterfall at Silver Falls State Park while posing for pictures

A tourist reportedly died after falling over 170 feet from a waterfall while posing for pictures at an Oregon state park.

Emergency crews rushed to Silver Falls State Park at around 6:30 p.m. Monday after receiving reports that the victim had fallen from the top of South Falls, a 177-foot waterfall.

Oregon State Police said an investigation found that the person had gone into a closed-off area to pose for photos at the top of the waterfall when they slipped and fell, according to Fox 12.

Bystanders tried to save the currently unidentified victim, but they died at the scene, the outlet said.
The waterfall, near Oregon’s capital, Salem, is well-known for having a trail allowing visitors to walk behind the falling water.

It is the main attraction in the park’s popular Trail of Ten Falls route and has been described as the “crown jewel” of Oregon’s state parks.
