Travis Kelce's costar Niecy Nash has celebrated his debut acting performance in Ryan Murphy's new series Grotesquerie – revealing why fans will be 'pleasantly surprised' by his talent.

The Kansas City Chiefs player, 34, landed a role in the hotly anticipated FX show alongside Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville, which is due to premiere tonight at 10pm ET.

Ahead of the first episode, Niecy, 54, made an appearance on Good Morning America where she heaped praise on the 'charming' sportsman and explained how she gave him a helping hand.

'You know, he came in as a newbie,' she said. 'I took him under my wing.'

Co-anchor Lara Spencer then probed: 'He said you were really like his mentor.'

The Kansas City Chiefs player, 34, is set to appear in the new series, which premieres tonight

'Yeah,' Niecy replied. 'Listen, fans of Travis are going to be pleasantly surprised. He is so charming in this.

'Yeah, you're gonna love him!'

Television presenters Lara, George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, and Michael Strahan, all agreed that Travis is 'multitalented' and an all-round 'great guy', to which Niecy quipped: 'The world better get ready!'

Niecy helms new 10-part series Grotesquerie, in which she plays Lois Tryon, a detective investigating a series of heinous crimes in her small community which feel 'eerily personal, as if someone or something is taunting her.'

While battling personal issues, she sets out to uncover the truth and accepts the help of Sister Megan, a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian — who is played by Micaela Diamond.

Together, they become trapped in 'a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers,' according to the logline.

While Travis' character is yet to be revealed, he did appear in the official trailer as well as another teaser.

In his lone line in the trailer, his character monotonously says: 'There's no future after this.'

Niecy's comments come as Travis broke his silence on his woeful start to the NFL season, after his miserable reaction on the Chiefs bench went viral on Sunday night.

Many had pointed to his hectic off-season and life away from football with girlfriend Taylor Swift, 34, as a potential reason for his on-field decline.

Speaking on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast alongside now-retired brother Jason Kelce, Travis said: 'I've had a lot of catches in this league, man.

'I'm not worried about the catches and the yards, and all of that, I have the most fun when I get the ball thrown my way, I mean, who doesn't?

'It has everything to do with execution and just making sure we're doing everything we can to win these football games, that's always going to be the goal.

'I think everyone saw my drop in the fourth quarter and the crucial third down, just trying to do too much before putting the ball away.'

Earlier this week, showrunner Ryan gave fans an insight into how Travis handled his acting debut, revealing that he wrote the NFL star's part specifically for him.

He also said that Travis worked with an acting coach for 'several months' and turned up knowing everybody's lines.

Ryan said: 'We were talking about his future and what does he want to do after football season, and I was just kind of giving him some fatherly advice.

Details of Travis's role remain under wraps, but he appeared in two teasers

'I always have a motto in my world and in my work, that a star is a star is a star. It doesn't matter what field you're a star in. If you have that charisma, you are going to bring it to whatever you do.

'He showed up off book. He knew everybody's lines. He was so professional. He was so committed. He kept saying to me, "I'm real coachable, coach me, coach me".

'So I did, and he ended up being a delight. I would love to continue working with him on this and other things.

'I cannot say enough about him as a leader. He's just the kindest, sweetest. Everything you think about him is true.'

Travis has so far had a quiet start to the NFL season for the Kansas City Chiefs with some pointing to his hectic off-season and life away from football with girlfriend Taylor Swift, 34

Jason, 36, joked he was planning to sit down with his daughters - Wyatt, Elliotte, and Bennett - to watch the first episode.

'Are you the bad guy? Are you the killer?' Jason asked on their New Heights podcast, to which Travis replied: 'Can't tell you. You're going to have to watch Jason.

'Make sure you have the girls watch this. They are going to love this show.'

Jason told his brother: 'Listen. Kylie [his wife] would murder me. I am going to have the girls. Is there a warning or is there a lot of surprises?'

Travis quickly shut down the prospect of his nieces watching him, replying: 'Dude! That was completely a joke. Do not let the girls watch this show.

'I don't know if they'll even like understand what's going on in the show. It's very advanced for toddlers.'
