President Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated White House health policy adviser Dr. Heidi Overton to serve as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.
Trump announced the nomination in a Truth Social post, calling Overton a “rockstar” in his administration.
He said she would work on his administration’s health agenda with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.
“We need her leadership at the FDA now to ensure that the U.S. remains the WORLD LEADER for Scientific Discovery and CURES,” Trump said in the post.
Overton currently serves as deputy director of the White House’s Domestic Policy Council.
Trump said Overton was a White House Fellow in his first administration and said she is a board-certified physician in public health and general preventive medicine.
