President Trump’s physician said that he is in “excellent health” following his annual medical exam.

The White House released a memo Friday detailing the results of his Tuesday physical exam at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, in which U.S. Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, physician to the president, said he is “demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function.”

“His demanding daily schedule, including multiple high-level meetings, public engagements, and regular physical activity, continues to support his overall well-being,” the memo continued. “Cognitive and physical performance are excellent. He is fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

Capt. Barbabella addressed the bruising on Mr. Trump’s hand, saying it is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation due to frequent handshaking and aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention, representing a common and benign effect of aspirin therapy. He recommended a low-dose aspirin, as Mr. Trump has admitted that he takes more than recommended.

Photos of noticeable bruising on his hand have also circulated since he came back to the White House for a second term. He has been photographed with makeup covering the bruise.

Mr. Trump’s slight lower leg swelling shows improvement from last year, Capt. Barbabella said. He was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency last summer after being spotted with swollen ankles and legs.

He also touched on the president’s weight, noting preventive counseling was provided, including guidance on diet, increased physical activity and continued weight loss.

At 6 feet 3 inches and 238 pounds, Mr. Trump’s Body Mass Index is 29.7. This technically places him in the “overweight” category, sitting right below the threshold for clinical obesity, which begins at a BMI of 30.0.

He gained 14 pounds since his medical exam in April 2025.

He is also on two medications for cholesterol control, Capt. Barbabella noted.

Mr. Trump was “within normal limits” on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a screening tool to detect mild cognitive impairment and early signs of dementia, scoring a 30 out of 30. His cardiac age was estimated to be approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age.

This is his third known checkup since returning to the White House last year.

Mr. Trump, the oldest president ever inaugurated, will turn 80 next month.
