Former President Trump said Thursday that he is meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday, one day after Vice President Harris met with the Ukrainian president.
Why it matters: Trump's announcement — during a press conference at Trump Tower in New York — also comes one day after the former president accused Zelensky of making "little, nasty aspersions" toward him.
Driving the news: "It's a shame what's happening in Ukraine, so many deaths, so much destruction. It's a horrible thing," Trump said.
- Trump said he will be meeting with Zelensky at Trump Tower at around 9:45am.
The big picture: Tensions between Trump and his allies and Zelensky grew this week, after Zelensky told the New Yorker that Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Trump's running mate, is "too radical" in his opposition to U.S. aid to Ukraine and that Trump doesn't know how to end the war with Russia.
- Trump on Wednesday criticized Zelensky and said he "refuses to make a deal."
- Zelensky also met with President Biden on Thursday.
