Donald Trump said he wants an Israel-Gaza ceasefire before the start of his term, the Qatari Prime Minister has claimed.
Speaking to Sky News, Qatari PM Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al Thani said Trump’s incoming administration have said they want the situation resolved by the time of his inauguration.
Al Thani said Qatar is trying to coordinate with them, and they are all in agreement “to get over this situation before the president comes to the office.”
He said Trump’s team “want this to be resolved now - today even.”

At the same time, the PM defended Hamas being allowed to continue operating their political office from Doha.
He claimed it was set up "with full transparency and coordination, and at the request of the US and Israel at that time to have this as to be used as a negotiation platform".
He said several ceasefires had been agreed on through the office since 2014.
Al Thani said: "There are tonnes of situations where we have prevented an escalation from the beginning in order not to put ourselves in a situation like what we ended up with on October 7.”
He added that although there is criticism from parties who disagree with this kind of policy, it is needed.
However, negotiations over a ceasefire for this war have not been successful thus far.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry, 44,500 Palestinians have been killed in the war.
At the same time, around 100 hostages taken from Israel on October 7 still remain in Gaza, however a third are presumed to be dead.

Trump said earlier this week that there would be “hell to pay” if the hostages were not released before his inauguration.
He wrote: "Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America."
Speaking of the effects of Trump’s relection on the Middle East, the Qatari PM stated there were “a lot of risks” but “plenty of opportunities.”
He said “I hope that everyone sees these opportunities.”
