A pair of Manhattan men were arrested this week after they allegedly imported one million individual doses of the lethal date rape drug GBL into NYC.
Mark Dygdon and Rodrigo Castro allegedly conspired to flood the five boroughs with seven tons of gamma-butyrolactone, which goes by street names like Blue Nitro and Revivarant and leaves users with euphoric and sedative effects.
Dygson, 48, and Castro, 34, were accused of bringing the drug in between August 2023 and June, and were charged June 17 by the Manhattan US Attorney’s office with conspiring to distribute a controlled substance.
They face 20 years in prison if convicted.
One dose of GBL could be deadly, U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said, calling it “liquid poison.”

The defendants allegedly imported seven tons of GBL. U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of New YorkCastro pleaded not guilty, his lawyer, Daniel McGuinness, told The Post. “It’s very early in the process, but he is very eager to clear his name and prove his innocence,” he said.
The government said it has business records and information from sources that allegedly prove Castro’s guilt, the attorney said.
“We look to see that information and see where everything went wrong, in their believing that my client is involved in this activity,” he said.
A lawyer for Dygdon, who also pleaded not guilty, did not respond to a request for comment.
