Two new Far Cry games actively in development at Ubisoft: Report

Another new Far Cry game is reportedly in the works, with Ubisoft greenlighting an ambitious new open-world project alongside its currently anticipated project Blackbird, while cancelling its upcoming extraction shooter.

According to a new report, a brand new Far Cry game is on its way, kickstarting the franchise once again – given it’s been four years since the latest game (or five if you don’t want to count any DLCs or GOTY versions).

Well, to help bring the franchise back to life, we now have a glimpse at what the future looks like, with an “ambitious” adventure in store soon.

New Far Cry project enters development at Ubisoft

As reported by Insider Gaming, the ambitious project in question is currently codenamed Kodiak and has officially entered development at Ubisoft’s Vantage Studios after passing its conception stage.

Sources told the outlet that Kodiak is being developed as an open-world first-person shooter where “player interactions and player-driven stories take center stage.” While details remain scarce, the project has reportedly been described internally as “really ambitious.”

Naturally, the game is still several years away from release and is currently being developed alongside another Far Cry project, codenamed Blackbird, which has previously been reported as the next mainline Far Cry game.

According to Insider Gaming, Kodiak is also being built on the foundations of the recently cancelled Project Maverick. Maverick was widely reported to be a standalone multiplayer extraction shooter before Ubisoft shelved the project earlier this year.

Based on everything reported so far, Blackbird still appears to be the next Far Cry game players will get their hands on, with Kodiak expected to arrive several years later if development continues as planned.

For now, however, very little is known about Kodiak beyond its reported focus on player-driven storytelling and open-world gameplay, meaning fans may have to wait quite some time before Ubisoft officially reveals the project.
