KFC’s Umamusume collab is releasing brand-new Uma-inspired menu items, giving fans a taste of carrot-colored dipping sauces and garlic-based seasoning.
The “Umamusume’s Yum Yum! Kentucky!” campaign runs from August 12 through September 30 at participating KFC restaurants across Japan.
Leading the collaboration is the Umamuma Kobu Mayo Dip Set, which includes a new orange-colored garlic mayo dip inspired by carrots (every horse girl’s favorite food).
The second wave follows on September 9 with the Carrot Occhahoi Set, and features a garlic/black pepper seasoning inspired by “Carrot Occhahoi,” a dish mentioned in Umamusume: Pretty Derby – Beginning of a New Era.
Each meal costs ¥1,500 (around $9.20) and includes two pieces of Original Recipe Chicken, fries, a Kernel Crispy strip, a redeemable code for an exclusive SSR Support Card, collaboration-themed recovery items, and a special Gold Ship costume in-game.
There’s even 18 randomly distributed trading cards and pin badges to collect, so fans will need to get through quite a bit of fried chicken if they want them all (I really shouldn’t have written this before lunch).
Both sets also come wrapped up in exclusive Umamusume packaging, just in case you were worried about there not being enough horse girl fan service with your meal.
KFC has also produced its first original collaboration song, “Gabutto!,” performed by Gold Ship, Manhattan Cafe, Agnes Tachyon, Dantsu Flame, Buena Vista, Lucky Lilac, Stay Gold, and Red Desire.
The track will play in select restaurants and will launch on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube Music. It will also be added to Umamusume’s in-game jukebox feature, which is a good thing considering it’s an absolute banger. Have a listen, don’t be shy:
Fans visiting Japan can also stop by KFC’s Sagamihara Onodai restaurant in Kanagawa, which will receive a full Umamusume makeover featuring exclusive artwork and character displays throughout the campaign.
According to KFC Japan, it marks the first time one of the chain’s collaborations has featured original menu items inspired by an anime or game. The two Uma-inspired menu items also took over a year to create, with KFC noting they wanted to create menu items that would “satisfy not only KFC fans but also Umamusume fans.”
So, if you happen to live in or be visiting Japan from August 12 through September 30, then you may want to grab some KFC to show off your love for horse girls and fried chicken.
This isn’t the only time Uma fans have been able to taste food inspired by the popular horse girl series. Back in June, Cygames teamed up with a brewery to release honey-flavored wine inspired by Tokai Teio’s favorite drink.
