An unassuming three-bedroom house has gone on the market for £575,000 - but one room has left people shocked.

At a first glance, the terraced property in St Albans, Hertfordshire, appears to be a typical family home.

Consisting of three bedrooms and one bathroom, a garage and conservatory, while only a couple of miles from the city centre - the property is in many ways very desirable.

But people online were left baffled by one 'very unusual' room on the Frost's Estate Agents listing on Rightmove- which contrasts greatly to the otherwise perfectly normal home.

Hidden in between snaps of a perfectly adequate bedroom and bathroom, is a bizarre room completely overwhelmed by penguins.

Shelves are filled with model penguins, while the room also features penguin crockery, pictures on the walls and a drape over the curtains.

Meanwhile a colony of soft toy penguins dominates one corner, all staring at a giant stuffed penguin opposite.

Even the walls are painted blue to represent the sea, while almost every type of the flightless birds can be found in the room.

On TikTok, the page @housinghorrors reacted with shock to the surprising room, exclaiming: 'Oh my god, I have never seen so many penguins in my entire life. This is just so niche.

'Imagine going round your mate's house for dinner, going into the spare room for a nap, and you see that!

'Imagine sleeping in that room and all those eyes just staring at you, I don't know if I could do it.'

While many were left shocked by the penguin room, others declared that they absolutely 'loved' the concept.

People commented: '575k seems a lot but if it comes with the Penguins, it's a bargain';

The rest of the three-bedroom property appeared normal and very unassuming

While many were left shocked by the penguin room, others declared that they absolutely 'loved' the concept

'Once upon a time this person said they quite liked penguins and every Christmas and birthday there after they have been gifted penguin stuff';

'I love when people have collections like this. It’s like you don’t ever need to think about what to gift them, penguin themed and you’re done';

'I WOULD BUY IT JUST FOR THE PENGUIN ROOM';

'I would only buy it if it came with the penguins.'

Even Penguin Books saw an opportunity, writing: 'Alright, no need to expose my house like this.'

The penguin house is not the only unusual property to have gone on the market in recent months.

A Disney-themed house featuring 'unhinged' decor including an enormous Aladdin mural also left people baffled earlier this month.

The home in Rhyl, North Wales, also seemed unassuming with its affordable £179,000 price tag.

The property features a princess-pink bedroom, an Aladdin-themed living area and an emerald green space which appears to have been decorated to resemble Maleficent's lair, but which also contains the Snow White mirror.

And it seems Elwy Estates, the agents selling the house, are embracing its extravagant décor.

The listing, which also appeared on Zoopla, read: 'We’ve just waved our magic wand and *Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo* we’ve found your happily ever after!'

Leaning into the unique decorative choices, estate agents describe the property as a 'charming three bedroom home where dreams come true,' calling it the 'perfect place to be our guest and create lasting memories!'

Meanwhile, a three-bedroom house in leafy west London also had a unique feature - as the main bedroom had an open-plan toilet.

The bath, sink and toilet were not separated from the rest of the room by a wall so were fully in the open for all to see (and presumably smell).
