Hong Kong has lined up a series of activities to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, with promotions such as free access to sports facilities and exhibitions, as well as discounts and a drone and firework show.

The Post breaks down what is happening on the October 1 public holiday, from sports and cultural activities to panda-themed activities and even National Day discounts.

1. What are the highlights?

The holiday, which falls on Tuesday of next week, will include an evening drone show visible from both sides of Victoria Harbour.

The display will start at 9pm and see drones form shapes such as red stars and purple flowers to symbolise the national and city flags, all to the tune of “Yellow River Cantata” – evoking the grandeur of the country’s landscapes.

The 23-minute spectacle will feature a nod to the arrival of the recently arrived giant pandas, with green sparkles and cascading waterfalls resembling bamboo forests set to Cee Lo Green’s cover of “Kung Fu Fighting”.

The show will wrap up at 9.28pm with a 33-second crescendo of dense purple and red fireworks.
