Until Dawn 2 has officially been revealed during PlayStation’s June 2 State of Play showcase, confirming the long-rumored horror sequel is coming to PS5 in 2027.
The reveal marks the first full sequel to Until Dawn, the choice-driven horror game originally developed by Supermassive Games. The franchise returned in 2024 with an enhanced version for PS5 and PC, adding new content and fueling speculation that Sony was preparing to continue the series.
This time, development is being handled by Firesprite, the PlayStation first-party studio known for Horizon Call of the Mountain. Rather than returning to the snowy isolation of Blackwood Mountain, Until Dawn 2 shifts the terror to a remote island and follows a group of ghost hunters chasing their next viral hit.
Until Dawn 2 brings fake ghost hunters to a real haunted island
The reveal trailer introduced a team of ambitious ghost hunters who fake their paranormal videos before traveling to an island tied to a woman’s chilling story.
According to the official reveal description: “Ready to die for likes? Join a team of ambitious ghost hunters as they chase their next viral hit on a remote island haunted by a woman’s chilling story of something far darker than they bargained for.”
The setup quickly takes a turn as the story they came to exploit begins manifesting around them in terrifying ways. As with the first game, players will be responsible for the group’s fate, with the reveal emphasizing that survival depends on the choices made throughout the story.
The trailer ended with the slogan: “Everyone can live, Everyone can die,” making it clear that Until Dawn 2 is sticking closely to the franchise’s branching horror identity.
Until Dawn 2 is currently slated to launch on PlayStation 5 consoles in 2027, though Sony has not yet confirmed a specific release date.
