  • This will be the first ever meeting between Uzbekistan and Colombia.
  • Uzbekistan’s only previous victory against a CONMEBOL side was in a March 2023 friendly versus Bolivia – they won 1-0 in Saudi Arabia with a goal from their all-time top scorer Eldor Shomurodov.
  • Uzbekistan are making their FIFA World Cup debut, aiming to become the first team from AFC to reach the knockout stage in their maiden appearance since Saudi Arabia in 1994 (Jordan also debuting in 2026).
  • Uzbekistan are one of five teams to reach the knockout stages of the AFC Asian Cup in each of the last six tournaments, going back to 2004. The other four are Iran, Iraq, Japan and Korea Republic.
  • Uzbekistan lost only one of their 16 qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with that sole defeat coming away to Qatar, where the hosts scored a winner in the 12th-minute of added-time (3-2). They finished second to Iran in that round of qualifying, conceding the fewest goals in the group (7 in 10 matches).
  • This will be Colombia’s seventh FIFA World Cup appearance and their first since 2018. Their best performance came in 2014 – they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by hosts Brazil.
  • Colombia have topped their FIFA World Cup group in each of their last two participations in 2014 and 2018, winning five of their six group matches in that span (L1).
  • None of Colombia’s 22 FIFA World Cup matches has ever ended in a goalless draw; only Austria (29) have featured in more World Cup matches without a single 0-0 result.
  • Colombia finished third in CONMEBOL qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup – only Argentina (31) scored more goals than Colombia (28), whilst Los Cafeteros produced more expected goals (28.8) and shots on target (96) than any other team.
  • Colombia scored the most headers (7) in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying campaign. They were also the joint-top scorers from corner kicks (4 – level with Argentina).
  • Eldor Shomurodov was involved in more goals than any other Uzbek player in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup – he scored five times and provided four assists.
  • Only Lionel Messi (8) scored more goals than Colombia’s Luis Díaz (7) in the CONMEBOL qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, James Rodríguez led the assist charts with seven, three more than his closest challengers.
  • Fabio Cannavaro was appointed Uzbekistan head coach in October 2025; it’s his second spell with a national team after China in 2019. As a player, he led Italy to FIFA World Cup glory in 2006, playing every minute of the tournament. In total, Cannavaro featured in four World Cups, the joint-most by an Italian player.
